Here are some tips I've learned from traveling the past few years

1. Stay in Hostels = Meeting People

If you stay in hostels, there’s a really good chance you’ll meet other travelers. When I travel, I like to stay in hostels primarily to save money. But I have found that many people who stay in hostels are like me: they are social and interested in talking and sharing their travel experiences. 

For example, when I arrived at my hostel in Punta Cana, I immediately met my roommate, Hans, from Switzerland. Hans had already been in Punta Cana for 1 week, and he told me which tours were good, how much they were, and where to sign up. That got me up to speed on excursions like going 4-wheeling and 

1: Take the first day to get acquainted with your immediate surroundings

You can’t drink the water in Punta Cana (certain hotels and resorts might be different), so take some time to figure out where you’re going to get food and water. Take a nap if you need to after a long travel day. Unpack and organize your things. Then you’ll be fresh for a new day.
